We are The Hummingbird Refugee Project

The Fable of the Hummingbird sits at the heart of everything we do. It tells of a small bird doing what it can in the face of a vast forest fire—carrying drops of water, again and again, while others stand by and watch.

When asked why, the hummingbird replies: “I am doing what I can.”

This simple story is the founding ethos of Hummingbird. It reminds us that change is not only made through scale or power, but through collective acts of care, courage, and persistence. Small actions, held together, become something powerful.

It also reflects how we work alongside young people seeking sanctuary—standing shoulder to shoulder with them, doing what we can, where we are, with what we have.
