After almost a year of hard work, this month the Hummingbird Project has become charity! We even have a fancy number to prove it… (Registered Charity Number 1174970)!
I am so incredibly proud of our Hummingbird Team. Hummingbirds have shown incredible dedication to supporting refugees and are still constantly pushing for positive change for the future. From gathering aid, building schools and shelters, leading on medical care in the jungle, supporting children who are alone, serving thousands of hot drinks and now our work with young refugees in the UK. All I can say is WOW what a team!!
When I talk about ‘our team’-I want to highlight that I mean everyone who has helped us run our services, fundraise, kept us going when it was really tough, supported us emotionally, and protected us in sometimes very hostile environments- many of these people are refugees- some still in France- some still part of our team now they are in the UK. Our charity status (supported by the amazing solicitors Griffith Smith Farrington Webb) means that we keep going and doing what we do!
We can look at sustainable ways to keep our work active and address the ever changing needs of people forced to be on the move. We have a long road ahead of us. We dream that one day there will be much more acceptance and protection of refugees, that there will be safe legal pathways, that as a country, and as individuals we can honestly say that we are doing all we can. But until then, Hummingbirds let’s keep going! ❤️
